Skateboard Park Committee Meeting Minutes
August 10, 2010

Members Absent: Marta Ferreira, Nathan Moore, Jessica Massery, Sue Serewicz.
Others Present: Eric Dunphy, Linda Lehans, Dan Castro
Jacquie distributed the Request For Qualifications for the design and engineering services for the new skateboard park. She explained that town council advised her that because this project isn't a building it doesn't have to go through a more formal process. The first phase of the "RFQ" will satisfy the preliminary design, planning and a sketch rendering. This should be presented to the Board of Selectmen, and if it is approved, it can be brought to a Town Meeting. The second phase includes construction documents and bid specifications. The chosen contractor will assist the committee in competitively bidding and finally, overseeing the construction of the skateboard park, assuring that it meets all the design and engineering specifications.
Mr. Eric Dunphy asked why Eagle Lake was chosen as the preferred site, and who is going to be responsible for monitoring the park and expressed concerns about liability. He also said that $200,000 might be better used to help rid the Lake of weeds, and help bring families back to a once popular beach.
Prior to the RFQ being distributed, a contract needs to be added.
Committee members are requested to send a list of firms that they are aware of that construct skateboard parks.
Wednesday, September 8 at 5:30 the committee will meet to review the received proposals, and interviews of those selected will be conducted on Tuesday, September 14.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45p.m.
